At Least 10 Adult Bed Rail Brands Recalled for Entrapment Deaths — Most Sold on Amazon

At least 10 brands of adult portable bed rails have been recalled by CPSC for entrapment and asphyxiation risks. Two deaths confirmed. Nearly all were sold on Amazon by sellers that are difficult or impossible to trace.

The names alone tell the story: MPINOI, JOKOSIS, YOLAAH, Beloems, Fortemotus, Hepo Care, Agrish, LEACHOI.

These are not brands most consumers would recognize. They are names on Amazon product listings — sellers of adult portable bed rails that the CPSC has now recalled for the same defect: users can become trapped within the rail or between the rail and the mattress, and die from asphyxiation.

At least 10 brands of adult bed rails have been recalled in 2025 and 2026. Two deaths have been confirmed, both associated with Vive Health products. Every recalled brand violates the same mandatory safety standard for adult portable bed rails.

Nearly all were sold on Amazon.

The Hazard

When an adult portable bed rail is attached to a bed, a gap can form between the rail and the mattress, or within the structure of the rail itself. If a user — typically an elderly person, a person with limited mobility, or someone recovering from surgery — rolls into that gap, they can become trapped and unable to free themselves.

Entrapment in a bed rail compresses the chest or neck. The victim asphyxiates. In many cases, the person is found dead by a caregiver the next morning.

This is not a theoretical risk. It has happened. CPSC confirmed two deaths with Vive Health bed rails and issued the recalls.

The Amazon Pattern

What makes this recall wave different from a typical CPSC action is the distribution channel. In a traditional recall, the manufacturer is identifiable, has a U.S. presence, and can be held accountable.

Here, the pattern is different:

  • MPINOI was sold on Amazon by a seller called "Bioenrrty"
  • JOKOSIS was sold on Amazon by a seller called "JOKOSIS"
  • LEACHOI was sold on Amazon by "LEACHOI"
  • Fortemotus was sold on Amazon by "Fortemotus Direct"

These are not established medical equipment companies. Many have minimal web presence outside their Amazon storefront. When CPSC issues a recall, the agency must identify a responsible party. In several of these cases, the "importer" listed in the recall notice is the Amazon seller account itself.

For consumers trying to return a recalled product, this creates a problem. If the seller has disappeared from Amazon or has no customer service operation, the recall remedy is functionally unavailable.

The Mandatory Standard

CPSC's mandatory standard for adult portable bed rails — 16 CFR 1243 — took effect in 2023. It establishes entrapment hazard tests that bed rails must pass before they can be sold in the United States.

Every recalled bed rail in this wave was found to violate that standard. The products should not have been sold. They reached consumers anyway, through a marketplace where compliance verification before listing is minimal.

What Buyers Should Do

If you or a family member uses an adult portable bed rail purchased from Amazon or any online retailer, check the brand name and model number against the CPSC recall list. The following brands have been recalled:

  • Vive Health (models LVA1024, LVA3031BLK, LVA2009SLV, LVA2097SLV)
  • MPINOI
  • JOKOSIS (model HC0262)
  • YOLAAH (model BR-01)
  • Agrish (models 2512, 2513, 2516)
  • Beloems (model BL-BR201)
  • Fortemotus (model USFTMTJAS008)
  • Hepo Care (model 110039)
  • LEACHOI

Stop using the product immediately. Contact the seller or Amazon for a refund. If you cannot reach the seller, file a complaint with the CPSC at SaferProducts.gov.
