21,040 GASGAS and Husqvarna Off-Road Motorcycles Recalled Over Cracking Rear Brake Calipers

KTM North America has recalled 21,040 GASGAS and Husqvarna off-road motorcycles because the rear brake caliper can crack or break, cutting braking effectiveness and creating a crash hazard. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on Aug. 20. Another 4,140 of the bikes were sold in Canada.

No injuries have been reported.

The hazard

The rear brake caliper is the clamp that squeezes the pads against the rear brake rotor. If it cracks or breaks apart, the rear brake loses its ability to stop the wheel. CPSC classifies the resulting crash hazard as a risk of serious injury or death.

Which bikes are covered

The recall covers 51 model and model-year combinations — 22 Husqvarna models and 29 GASGAS models — from model years 2021 through 2024. They were sold at GASGAS and Husqvarna authorized dealers nationwide from September 2020 through June 2023 for between $7,300 and $13,000. Note that the selling window and the model years are different things: a 2024 model year bike could have been bought in 2023.

The GASGAS bikes are red with a white GASGAS logo on both sides of the shrouds. The Husqvarna bikes are white, blue and yellow with the Husqvarna logo on both sides of the shrouds. The VIN is on the right side of the steering head.

What to do

Stop riding the motorcycle immediately. Contact an authorized GASGAS or Husqvarna dealer to schedule the repair, which is free.

The phone line for both brands is 888-985-6090, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time, Monday through Friday. The importer is KTM North America Inc., of Amherst, Ohio; the motorcycles are made in Austria.

This is the second caliper recall on these bikes

On May 15, 2025, CPSC announced recall 25283 covering about 19,310 GASGAS and Husqvarna off-road motorcycles in the United States, model years 2022 through 2025 — that time because the front brake caliper could crack.

Comparing the two CPSC notices: 50 of the 51 model and model-year combinations in the new recall were also in the 2025 one. The single exception is the 2021 GASGAS EC 300, which was not in the earlier recall.

For an owner, that means the 2025 fix does not cover this one. A rider who had the front caliper inspected and repaired last year still needs the rear caliper repaired now. It is a separate part and a separate remedy. Owners can ask the dealer to confirm the 2025 front-caliper work was completed while the bike is on the lift.

Both recalls were announced by CPSC, not by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: these are off-highway machines, handled as consumer products rather than as on-road motor vehicles. Owners should look for them in CPSC's recall records and at the manufacturer VIN-check pages above.

Anyone who has had a caliper crack should report it to CPSC at SaferProducts.gov in addition to contacting the dealer.
