Joy Furniture Recalls Talan and Royce Power Recliner Sets After 41 Incidents, Two Fires
CPSC announced a May 28, 2026, recall of Joy Furniture Talan and Royce living-room sets after 41 reported incidents — smoking, burning, and electrical odor — and two fires tied to a defective power-recline switch.
Joy Furniture recalled its Talan and Royce living-room furniture sets on May 28, 2026, after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reported 41 incidents tied to a power-recline switch that can malfunction and overheat. The recall covers about 10,400 units nationally, including the powered sofa, loveseat, and recliner in each set.
CPSC said the 41 incidents include reports of smoking, burning, and electrical odor. Two of those incidents resulted in fires. No injuries have been reported. CPSC describes the hazard as fire and serious-injury risk.
The products
The Talan sets sold from January 2024 through March 2026 at prices between $1,000 and $2,200. The Royce sets sold from May 2025 through mid-May 2026 at prices between $800 and $1,800. Both lines were sold at Raymour & Flanigan stores in Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.
The defect
The power switch on the powered reclining furniture can malfunction and overheat. Overheating switches in powered upholstered furniture are a recognized fire hazard because the failure occurs inside or against fabric and foam that can ignite.
What CPSC says owners should do
CPSC's notice instructs consumers to stop using the power-recline switch and unplug the power cord immediately. The remedy is a free upgraded switch installed by an authorized technician at the consumer's home, coordinated through the recalling firm. Owners should consult the CPSC recall notice for the specific model numbers, manufacture dates, and scheduling instructions that apply to their unit.
What we're watching
