Worker Killed by Heavy Machinery at Bridge Builders of Alabama Facility in Chilton County

A worker died July 29 at a Bridge Builders of Alabama facility in Clanton after being struck and pinned by two pieces of heavy machinery, the Chilton County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

Deputies responded to the site, where emergency personnel provided aid. The worker died from the injuries, according to Chilton County Sheriff John Shearon.

The identity of the worker has not been released.

Investigation

The Chilton County Sheriff's Office is investigating. Alabama has no state workplace-safety plan, so federal OSHA has jurisdiction over the private-sector workplace; employers are required to report a work-related fatality to OSHA within eight hours, and the agency opens an inspection into deaths it covers. Under federal law, OSHA generally has six months from the date of a violation to issue any citations.
